NO HOME MOVIE is an intimate portrait of Chantal Akerman’s dying mother, a woman who was a grounding presence in the filmmaker’s career. This revealing, at times devastating documentary is in dialogue with Akerman’s full body of work, examining instability, confinement, and her mother’s personal trauma as a Holocaust survivor while showcasing her meticulous eye for beauty. Deftly balancing her relationship with her mother with universal questions of life and mortality, this moving and deeply personal documentary provides a poignant bookend to Akerman’s rich filmography.
