In developing this program, we became aware of certain distinctions shared by to these filmmakers. They make personal films, using a wide range of techniques and strategies to explore selfhood or their experiences being women in the world. They are interested in connections between identity and abstraction.
In addition to their film work, they also contribute or contributed significantly to experimental film culture in other ways: by curating, teaching, and starting screening series or film organizations, thus amplifying their own interests and explorations in ways that remain significant to others. We claim no special connection to these filmmakers, but wish to see their films as amplifiers of our own activities as well as engaging works in their own right.
The program begins with a performance by the Mizzou Creative Improvisation Collective, in their inaugural public performance.
