GiveNOLA Day is a big day for nonprofits in New Orleans, and we’re happy to be a part of that energy. Donations received today through our direct link will be stretched by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, increasing your generous support.
For over five years, we’ve been championing cinema through the filmgoing experience. This means providing as much access to great films as we can, and presenting them with as much care as we can. This year we’ve increased this access by presenting several free screenings; have provided a platform for local organizations and people to talk about their work; and have hosted multiple artists to present their experimental and documentary films.
We hope you’ll support us on GiveNOLA Day as we begin our next major step. We’ve never been closer to our goal of opening a year-round cinema, which will dramatically increase our ability to do our work and reach audiences across the city. We can’t say anything specific quite yet, but we are actively taking steps toward building out a screening room that’s capable of digital, 35mm, and 16mm projection, making us one of the only exhibitors in the Gulf region able to show film as well as digital. It matters to audiences to see movies presented correctly, and it matters to filmmakers to see their work represented well. Please help us lay the groundwork for a venue that will do justice to both.
One final note: as a cinema without a home, we rely on other organizations for their spaces to use as screening venues. Southern Rep Theatre and the Marigny Opera House have been indispensable to our programming this year by providing access to their beautiful spaces, and we’ve benefited from camaraderie of groups like NOVAC, the New Orleans Film Society, Deltaworkers, and others. We encourage you to support these other groups as we continue to strengthen our local film ecosystem.
Thank you for supporting our work; we hope we’ve been able to enrich your lives through film.
